Salt Water Fishing

Depending on the season, salt water fishing acaught on isle of wightll around the Island will allow you the opportunity to catch a vast variety of fish! From Cod, to Pollack, to Black Bream to Mackerel, there truly is a great variety all around our coast. You can either fish from along the many coastal lines we have, or maybe consider heading out to sea on a boat!

In general, Salt Water fishing can be done from any stretch of our coast, but the best coastal places to catch some of the best fish are: Alum Bay, Atherfield, Bembridge, Bonchurch,Brook, Chale, Colwell Bay, Compton Bay, Cowes, East Cowes, Freshwater Bay, Gurnard, Ryde, Sandown, Seaview, Totland, Ventnor, Yarmouth

Boat Charters

Fishing boat charters are also available from all around the island’s coast line. Here’s our pick of a few of the local ones:
Ocean Blue Charters in Ventnor offer a variety of fishing options, from a one hour Mackerel trip, to lobster hauling, to private angling parties on the boat!
Cachalot Charters from Bembridge harbour is licensed for 12 and fully equipped for a day’s fishing at Sea!
Blackrock Charters from Yarmouth offer all day fishing trips, winter cod fishing trips, Bass / Bream fishing trips, as well as much much more!

Freshwater Fishing

Freshwater fishing across the Isle of Wight gives you the opportunity to catch Trout, Roach, Chub, Perch, Bream, Carp, Rudd, Tench and Eel. To fish anywhere other than the Sea, and if you are over 12 years old, you will need to buy a licence from either the Post Office or the Environment Agency.

Three of our properties have their own fishing lakes and access, and are ideal spots for the keen freshwater fisher who can have the lakes right on their doorstep!

pat-3thMarvel Cottage in Newport offers fly fishing from Blackwater lake and Shide lake. Formerly a syndicate members only fishery, a small number of rods are now available for visitors to the Island with priority being given to residents of Marvel Cottage and other self catering and B & B properties within the Isle of Wight Farm and Country Holiday Group. Stocked with full finned, fighting fit fish bred and reared for the fishery – no blunt-nosed, finless stockies here – the fishing is superb and until now one of the Island’s best kept secrets. Sunnyside Farm is a working farm situated between the lovely villages of Godshill and Whitwell. They have a couple of ponds for fishing, which are well stocked with carp. The only request is to please use barbless hooks only and you will need a national fishing licence. If you do not have one of these they can be obtained from the local post office at a cost of £3.50 per day. Sabrie will be happy to discuss this with you.

Mersley Farm also has their own private fishing lake which is available for their guests to use. It is a 10 minute walk over the fields or a 2 minute drive away. Langbridge Withy Bed at Newchurch, Isle of Wight is a one and a half acre mature pond set well into the countryside. The deepest area of the pond reaches 6-7 feet. Here you can catch Perch up to 3lb, Pike up to 8lb, Rudd up to 3/4lb, Tench up to 1lb, Carp up to 12lbs and Eels up to 2lbs.

White Oak Coarse Fishing near newtown, where you can catch Bream, Carp, Rudd, Perch and Roach.
Hale Manor Lakes near Newport where you can catch Carp and other coarse Fish ,
Somerton Reservoir in Cowes, where you can catch Carp
Island Fish Farm, near Brighstone, where you can catch Rainbow Trout and Carp, where they encourage anglers to take their catch and can even smoke and freeze the produce should they wish to collect their catch later.
